Secondary 3E3 History: Debates Session

Debate allows students to develop skills and knowledge making them more confident and bold in stating their personal voice. What better way to do revision then to pit one another in the debate arena. In a battle of wits, our Pure Historians from Mr Syed's class debated on two motions surrounding Hitler’s rule and impact of British rule in Malaya. Watch these videos to catch them in action:
Secondary 3E3 History: Knowledge Builder
Here is Mr Gireesh doing a lesson with 3E3 on Knowledge Building on the Rise of Hitler.
Students were given sources on the Rise of Hitler. After which, they are to interpret the information, value add based on the sharing of their peers, synthesize and construct new understanding.
Secondary 3E3 History: Games-Based Teaching
Joined by the school leaders and other teachers, our 3E3 Pure History students had a fun-filled History lesson on the topic of the Rise of Stalin as Mr Syed explored games-based teaching with the class. Students were seen to be engrossed in the board game and through the activity, they were able to better understand the more complicated content (e.g. exploitation of rivalry that led to Stalin's rise to power in the Soviet Union).

History Freeze Frame

The History Freeze Frame is the final part of the Sec 3 Pure History students' Weighted Assessment in which the Historians are required to re-enact a part of colonial history. They are required to come up with a storyboard and act it out. They must also pose questions and respond to each other's enactment.

National Gallery Visit @ 14 Feb 2019
On 14 February 2019, our Secondary 3 Express Pure History classes went on an interdisciplinary Art History learning Journey to the National Gallery. They visited the exhibition, “Between Declarations and Dreams: Art of Southeast Asia since the 19th century” where they analysed artworks through the use of questioning techniques. Through questionings, they explored the past through visuals and derived at the possible answers to the inquiry question, “How were societies transformed by colonialism?” This process makes the learning of History all the more fun as students get to look beyond surfaces and obvious appearances, see nuances in things and experience the excitement of seeing examples of human creativity.

Pure History Infographic Activity Presentation
In Term 1, our Pure History students came up with infographics and a presentation about the two Southeast Asian countries (Indonesia and Malaysia) that they will be learning. Our students put in a lot of effort in their presentation – some came up with quizzes and others came up with a skit! Some groups even bought small tokens for their friends. This form of self-directed learning gives our students the opportunity to teach themselves and others and is an essential skill to becoming a lifelong learner in the future. Here are some photographs and sample infographics prepared by the Pure History students from 3E4:
